What To Do When It Snows In May

I'm not one to sit around and fret about the weather, but ENOUGH SNOW already!!! It is hard to get inpired and think happy thoughts when it is freezing outside, but this May Long Weekend I did just that. Besides having a small family birthday party for my daughter Michaela, who turned 15 on Sunday, I got a hot fire going in my studio and had some play time !

I wasn't too sure what I wanted to create until I started playing around with all the different beads and charms. I must have been enjoying myself because I made a couple very funky and very FULL charmed necklaces. I love them and think they will be perfect for a summer night out dancing or just chill'n with the girls over lunch!

I also added some much needed love to a painting of a little girl that I did way back in 1996! Well if love consists of some cool paper ,some old tickets and text from a vintage childrens book than it was definately love I added !

Bloom

Well I finally finished the collage I've been playing around with for the past few weeks. It would have been completed earlier if not for the flu bug I've been dealing with! I really like it and it brings some colour and life above my wintery looking fireplace. well..it did snow yesterday...

Anyway, here's to no more snow and to all those pretty little flowers and trees dying to BLOOM!

Collage Project

I started a collage a couple of weeks ago and I am slowly picking away at it. It's not a planned piece, so I do spend most of my time staring at it until it speaks to me and tells me what I should do next! I really enjoy working with mixed media and experimenting with layouts. It's a great way to keep the creative juices flowing and have some fun in between the more serious pieces. I hope to work on it some more this week and complete it so I can hang it over my fireplace. It's a tad whimsical and the colours are playful and bright which I find perfect for Spring!

Every winter I have to haul all my paints, glues, inks and anything else that may freeze out of my cabin studio so they don't freeze. It's a happy day when I can move back in and have my bedroom back to normal!

Spring Is In The Air!

Winter Blues

Today was not a snow day. It was cold -30 with the wind, and some snow that was blown around from last nights storm. I woke up an hour later than usual and proceeded to wake up sleepy teenagers who were very unwilling .

My mom called me to annouce, "No bus cancelations but drive with caution" So my groggy teens and I climbed into my Tracker and crawled up the snowy driveway. So far...so good.

Now I'm stuck.

At the top of my driveway I hit a big snow drift POOF! I look down our road as far as I could see and it didn't look any better. Well I have no choice now but to wake up my oldest son who is sleeping in on his day off. (What exactly is a day off??) I'm not looking forward to this , but he's my #1 guy when dad's working out of town.

Brendan gets out of bed annoyed that I got stuck, but more annoyed that I may be staying home then he'd have more work to do! We got into his dad's truck, went up the long driveway and started to evaluate the situation. Brendan knows what to do and gets everything ready for a tow. I get in the tracker aka "Christine" and we get it unstuck. Yahoo!

The ropes are untied and now I start to move the vehicle so I can head down the driveway when it just stops running..... What now?? We try and try but it won't start and we detect a burning smell. Great.

And so it stays, in the snow at the top of our driveway unable to move while I come back into the warm house and open up a fresh blank page in my art journal to document and get rid of my stressful morning!

That's Right...I'm 40 and It's Wonderful!!

Well today is the day. I've reached another milestone, joined a new club, climbed over that hill and did it all with a big smile on my face! I had a wonderful day and I know I'll have many more because I have such a great family and group of friends to share them with.

Part of me cannot believe that I am another decade older. (wow! Did I actually type that out loud??? ) I feel more alive creatively, spiritually and emotionally then I did when I was 25 and was chasing after 3 young children and trying to balance my cheque book!

Life is all about choices and about finding where you belong in this big crazy, beautiful world. I'm choosing to embrace my new age with a great attitude and positive thinking. I now find I have the time, which I desperately craved in my 20's and 30's, to find out who I am as an artist. A woman. A wife. A mother.

So cheers to me for reaching this point in my life where I can finally put myself first and start the adventure of finding myself again.

Winter Wonderland

We sure had some frosty days ....or should I say MONTHS!! This journal page was inspired by the weather and all that white stuff we have been blessed with. I cannot wait for it all to go it's been a long winter and I'm craving the sunshine!
