Colour Of Cancer Memory Bracelets- Honouring Hideki ...

I finally have a moment to post some pictures of my Colours Of Cancer Memory Bracelets I made for a friend of mine at Christmas. These bracelets are very special because my friend Setsu, lost her husband last year to cancer and wanted to give all those that helped her through this difficult time a bracelet. These wonderful friends were there to hold her when she broke down, comfort her when she needed it, look after her 3 beautiful children and just be there for support and understanding. It was a very difficult time for my friend and she really wanted to give these friends something special....something to demonstrate her gratitude to her friends but most of all something for them to remember her beloved Hideki . I hope these Colours Of Cancer Memory Bracelets will do just that.
Each bracelet has a colourful bead that represents all the forms of cancer which are:
Dark Green- Kidney Cancer
Teal- Ovarian Cancer
Purple- Pancreatic Cancer
Pink- Breast Cancer
Dark Blue- Colon Cancer
Lavendar- General Cancer Awareness
Orange/Red- Leukemia
Grey- Brain Cancer
Black- Melanoma
Lime Green- Lymphoma
Blue-Prostate Cancer
Gold- Childhood Cancers
Clear/ White- Lung Cancer
Peach-Uterine Cancer

To make the bracelets unique to each of Setsu's friends and her 2 daughters I added special charms so they were personal and something they will always treasure. It's truly tragic that someone so young should lose their husband and three little children have to grow up without their daddy. You are always in my thoughts Setsu and I am humbled to have been chosen to honour your husbands memory. God Bless you and your family. XOXOX

A Prayer For Haiti

Lord, I just want to say THANK YOU, because this morning I woke up and knew where my children were. Because this morning my home was still standing, because this morning I am not crying because my husband, my child, my brother or sister needs to be carried out from underneath a pile of concrete, because this morning I was able to drink a glass of clean water, because this morning I was able to turn on the light, because this morning I was able to take a shower, because this morning I was not planning a funeral, but most of all I thank you this morning because I still have life and a voice to cry out for the people of Haiti. Lord, I cry out to you, the one that makes the impossible, possible, the one that turns darkness into light, I cry out that you give those mothers strength, that you give them peace that surpasses all understanding, that you may open the streets so that help can come, that you may provide doctors, nurses, food, water, and all that they need in a blink of an eye. For all those that have lost family members, give them peace, give them hope, give them courage to continue to go on! Protect the children and shield them with your power.

Heart The Arts Prompts 2010-week #4- " Under Control..."

Well if there were only one thing that I needed to get "Under Control" it would definately be this! Man I love CHOCOLATE! It's getting progressively worse with age too! ((big sigh!)) Now the problem isn't the chocolate, as we very well know, it's what it does to this body that's the problem! I just don't know how I am going to kick the habit... but I do know that I definately have to get my smartie eating, dark chocolate loving, hershey gobbling, cupcake consuming, solid milk chocolate bunny gorging, and the ever ,but so loved, Cadbury mini egg crunching BUTT off the art making chair and get some EXERCISE!!! Whew! I think I burned a few calories just venting all of that! Thank goodness I have my art journal to work out all this stress! lol Hope you enjoy! I wish the images were clearer , I had to use my old camera as there is something wrong with my new one....where's that oh henry!!

Homemade Clay Beads

What to do on a snowy day? Go for a walk with favourite dog? check. Paint in my art journal? check. Complete custom jewelry orders? check. Make a few dozen clay beads? check. Of course I did make sure all my chores were done , kids were picked up from work, sick hubby was cared for all that "not so fun " stuff..... The beads turned out great and I cannot wait to use them ! The clay that I've been using for years is one that I can manipulate well with my hands and then just pop in the oven for 15 mins. It's just that easy.

Heart The Arts Prompt 2010 - "Clearly...."

Week #3 and the prompt is "Clearly.." I'm not gonna lie, this one was a bit difficult for me and I think it mainly had to do with my thought process at the moment. Things have been stressful for me lately and I wanted to paint something true and real but not disturbing! I decided on the idea of how busy my mind was and how hectic my life seems to be lately. I tried to remain positive and paint the good things going on in my brain instead of having it black and depressing - which is how things have been for me lately. As in all my art I really portray everything that is me and sometimes worry about how people will perceive it. This is something that I need to get over because I think with most artists, musicians included, we create something real and emotional when we are going through a hard time. Maybe I will create my black feelings....who knows it might turn out to be beautiful.

In From The Cold

Wowza! It's been freezing cold weather in our neck of the woods for a couple of weeks now and I'm missing the sanctuary of my studio! Since before Christmas I've had to bring in most of my beading materials as it was taking way too long to heat up the cabin and I was going through the wood pile very quickly. Despite the bit of space it takes up (just for now) it's quite comfy and I'm enjoying the fact that I can work any time the feeling strikes without worrying about the temperature.
